A Taste of Coastal Traditions
Seafood delights and the possibility to cast the line
A flavorful & educational experience with some exciting fishing! Relax on deck and enjoy nature as we sail in fjords and in between nearby island in the spectacular scenery outside Tromsø. Hear the story of Hermes II, our Skandfer cutter from 1917, learn more about Tromsø’s surroundings and about the warship Tirpitz, which was sunk just outside the city in 1944. On this trip, we will also encounter abundant birdlife, often spotting eagles and seals, and sometimes a pod of dolphins may appear. For extra excitement, we stop for a while so you can try fishing with one of our fishing rods. Selected samples of local, traditional food – served during the trip.
To truly taste the traditions of the coast, the food must also be tried. That’s why we offer a selection of tempting samples, mainly seafood. These will vary slightly depending on the season. But delicious? Oh yes! You can definitely look forward to it!

THE EXPERIENCE
Peace and quiet on board
Tranquillity.
Calmness away from the bustling town. Cars, shops and people in a hurry. The peaceful sound of the waves hitting the bow, while the beat of the engine thumps faithfully in the engine room. On deck it is open. Totally open. It doesn’t matter whether you turn to port or starboard, the view is the same. It takes your breath away.
Snow-covered, majestic mountains tower over clean, Arctic waters. The occasional seagull follows the boat. As a reflex, they think that there is food to be found here. Is it the sound of the Cummins 335 engine that is recognisable? Or is it the vessel’s history as a fishing boat that attracts the seagulls to look for a free meal?
On the trip, you will learn more about Hermes II’s intriguing history.
Safety first
Hermes II is equipped with top-quality modern navigation and safety equipment. On board, you will meet highly qualified and experienced skippers and hosts with upgraded safety training. A trip with Hermes II should be a pleasant and safe experience for everyone.
Facilities
Serving
Hermes II is registered as a restaurant with a serving licence. Therefore we are not able to allow our guests to bring their own food or drinks. Exceptions can be made for small children and allergy sufferers.
On two of our open trips – the 2.5 hour cruise and the fishing trip (4.5 h) alll our guests get a warm fishcake. On the fishing trip we prepare today’s catch and serve fresh fish the traditional northern Norwegian way. Coffee and tea are included. Other hot drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks may be purchased on board – also on our 1 hour trips.
On some of our SPECIAL SEASONAL CRUISES we offer special food & wine/beer menus. We focus on local produce to give you an exciting culinary experience. E.g: Skriemølje (famous fresh cod dish) in the winter, aquavit & herring dishes for Christmas, beer and seafood-based local street food in the summer or other special events related to food concepts.
We plan the TAILOR-MADE TRIPS in cooperation with you. There are many options, from a pure boat trip without food, to various servings on deck, to multi-course tasting menus in the lounge below deck. On a trip with us you can enjoy a culinary experience with a delicious selection of known – and perhaps unknown – flavours from the best local food producers.
Please contact us, and we will find the best menu for your cruise.
Clothing
Tromsø lies approximately on the edge of the Arctic ice. It is cold here, but it is even colder out at sea and it’s more exposed to wind. We therefore recommend that you keep abreast of the weather forecast before your trip and dress accordingly.
